…As Oborevwori Promises To Partner FGC Warri
Delta State governor, Rt.Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has said his administration will partner the famous Federal Government College, Warri, to sustain the standard of education which has helped the school to produce notable Nigerians including former Governors Emmanuel Uduaghan and Akinwunmi Ambode.
Oborevwori, while describing FGC Warri as ‘envy of other schools’ in the country, noted that the school has contributed immensely to the unity of Nigeria through the admission of students irrespective of their tribe or religion.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, stated this on Saturday during a dinner and award ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary and end of a three-day Reunion of the Class of 72/74 of the Federal Government College, Warri.
Speaking at the event, Oborevwori said, “The Federal Government College, Warri, like similar Federal Government colleges of the 1960s, was founded to breed a generation of Nigerians for the onerous task of nation building. Renowned for academic excellence and character development, the school was the dream and desire of every young man.
“It was not just that you are guaranteed quality education, but also that being a student of the school entitled you to some bragging rights. I recall that students of the school were the envy of their peers.
It is gratifying to note that the school has produced leaders that continue to shape our history as a nation. Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan is one of such men. Delta State is blessed to have had him as Governor in the current democratic dispensation.
“As a government, we are committed to providing a conducive learning climate in state owned institutions, while empowering the students with the skill-set to compete in the global marketplace.”

Also speaking, former governor Delta state, Dr. Uduaghan commended the Principal, management and staff of the institution for keeping the standard of the school, stressing that the old students would continue to assist her alma mater maintain the quality of education.
Uduaghan noted, “Today is a very exciting day for me, we are celebrating 50 years of leaving college, we are celebrating a glorious time for Nigeria. things are tough, things are hard but expectedly, we will come out of it.”
In his welcome address, the President of 72/74 Class and former Permanent Secretary in Bayelsa State, Dr. Bribina Frank Samayin, commended former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for hosting the reunion, noting that celebrating 50 years of graduating from high school was a big milestone.
Dr. Samayin, while describing the Class of 72/74 as pacesetters, noted that the Reunion also coincided with the February 17 Founders Day of FGC Warri.
“It is important to note for the records that this was the very first formal Reunion of any of the Class sets of FGC Warri Old Students. We were the pacesetters. The Class of 72/74 has not only set the set but has set the standard. Since then so many Class Sets have been up and running and doing very commendably.
“Your Excellency Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, the seed you planted became a fruitful tree and the fruitful tree is becoming a forest. My first three Children are products of Federal Government Colleges and attended our Reunion as youths at some point. Each one went on to be birthers of their Class Sets.

“Some of the contributions of this Class Set to the development of the Alma Mata includes, Provision of a Coaster Bus, Equipping and furnishing a Computer learning center, Renovation of the HSC Block of the School.
“Now the bright eyed kids of the sixties and seventies have grown from boys and girls to even grandparents and by the grace of God some have stepped into the 7th floor of life having attained the Biblical three score and ten years and the rest are coming not far behind”, Samayin added.
Meanwhile, the Class of 72/74 has honoured former Uduaghan and his wife, Deaconess Roli Uduaghan, Chief Edirin James Abamwa, Sir Anthony Omatsone, Kenneth Igbokwe and Engr. Alexander Eteli Weekse with Top Class Award in recognition of their invaluable contribution to the sustenance of the Class of 72/74 family
The dinner and award celebration was attended by the Chairman of Urhobo Traditional Rulers Council and Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr Emmanuel Sideso, OON, Abe I; Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, His Majesty, King Obukohwo Monday Whiskey PhD, Udurhie 1; Ovie of Agbon Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Ogurimerime Ukori l; Pere of Kabowei Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Barr. Shadrach Erebulu, Adou lll and Ovie of Mosogar Kingdom, HRM Sunday Odogun Okpurhe, Uduaka 1.
Others were the representatives of Ogiame Atuwatse lll, The Olu of Warri, led by Chief Mene Brown; Warri South Council chairman, Dr. Michael Tidi; Delta Urban and Highways Commissioner; Hon. Reuben Izeze; Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Girl-Child Development, Ms. Orode Uduaghan , DBIR Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Mr. Kelly Oghenekevwe and members of the FGC Warri Alumni.
