The Ijaw People’s Development Initiative, IPDI, has condemned what it described as a “provocative and barbaric” call by a so-called sponsored Niger Delta coalition demanding the sack of Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, administrator of the presidential amnesty programme, PAP.

In a statement signed by its National President and made available to newsmen on Saturday, IPDI said the move is being orchestrated by “attention seekers and enemies who want to destabilize the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP.”

“The attention of well-meaning stakeholders of the Niger Delta has been drawn to the recent call by a so-called ‘sponsored coalition’ demanding the sack of Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro from the office,” the statement read.

“We condemn in the strongest terms this provocative and barbaric attempt to destabilize the region and undermine the progress being made under Dr. Otuaro’s leadership.”

IPDI further stated that Dr. Otuaro has shown capacity and sincerity since assuming office, and that calls for his removal are counterproductive to the peace and development of the region.

“Dr. Otuaro has demonstrated commitment, capacity, and sincerity in handling the affairs entrusted to him, and any call for his removal at this time is not in the interest of peace, unity, and development of the Niger Delta,” the group said.

The group urged Niger Deltans to ignore what it called “sponsored distractions” and instead support ongoing efforts to sustain peace, security, and empowerment in the region.

“We urge all genuine Niger Deltans to disregard this sponsored distraction and to continue to support efforts aimed at sustaining peace, security, and empowerment in the region.”, he added.
