Men of the Anti-Trafficking Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba, Delta State, have arrested the mother of the 15-year-old girl, Eunice Asuelie, for allegedly sex trafficking her 15-year-old daughter at Beeland Hotel.
Asuelie was alleged to have forced her daughter, Esther Emmanuella, to a sex trafficker at Beeland Hotel in Udu Local Government Area of the state.
A human rights activist, Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho, told the press that Emmanuella escaped from the sex trafficker and sought refuge with her classmate’s family in Effurun.
Aghogho said, “The young girl has since been released to the care of the proprietress of Triumphal Model School in Effurun, Magareth Oghuvwu.
“We were at the Anti-Trafficking Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba, Delta State Police Headquarters on Friday for interview.
“I was among those interviewed by the police. This case highlights the ongoing issue of human trafficking and exploitation in Nigeria, with many victims lured into exploitation through false promises of employment or a better life.”
The spokesperson for the command, Bright Edafe, confirmed the woman’s detention to newsmen, stating that the command would investigate all persons involved in the case.
“I can confirm that the mother is in detention at the police headquarters and the police are investigating the whole matter”, she said.
