The leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Ogulagha Clan Western Zone, Delta State, Nigeria, has written to the 9th National Executive Council, NEC, of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Worldwide, ably led by Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr over the ravaging coastal surge in Obuguru Community.

According to them, it has become urgently necessary to write the apex organ of Council over the disaster and extinction of an Ijaw community whose at the verge of total extinction despite being a producer of the liquid gold.

In an open letter signed by the trio of Comr Keneware Emmanuel, Chairman, Comr. Godspower Potoki, Secretary and Comr. Ayelatei Wene, Information Officer, the Ogulagha Clan IYC appeal to the 9th National Executive Council, NEC, to come to their aid and help to add their voice inorder to draw the attention of the government at all levels to come to the rescue of our people whose homeland, ancestral homes, fishing settlements and properties worth billions is being destroyed, as a result of the aggressive ocean surge.

Pitiable state of Obuguru Community

The letter reads in part…  

Mr President, we write with a heavy heart and as patriots of the Ijaw Nation to draw your attention and the entire 9th NEC of the revered Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Worldwide, to come to our plight.
Obuguru Community is a host to the former Eni Agip Oil Company Nigeria Limited, now operating as Oando Surgenal Limited for decades now. It also houses the Beniboye Flowstation.

Mr. President, our community have suffered immensely, despite contributing tremendously, our people zero basic social amenities, shoreline protection infrastructure, basic healthcare, portable drinking water, educational facilities, and meaningful empowerment opportunities.
To crown it all, the decades of oil exploration and production activities have left behind negative impact which has culminated in the worsening coastal erosion currently threatening the existence of the community.

We write for you and of course the office of the Spokesman to add your voice and even pay the community a visit, so you can see things for yourself.

It is our sincere appeal that you give our sincere concern a speed attention, as an injury to one, is an injury to all. They added.

It will also be recalled that the Ogulagha Clan IYC has draw the attention of the Federal, State and Local Government, as well as other government agencies and parastatals to the plight of the Obuguru Community.
The plight of the community has also received call from well meaning individuals and organization like the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) led by Comrade Sheriff Mulade PhD.
