Council Boss Inaugurates 3rd Corpers Lodge In Rivers

It was yet another day of immense joy for the NYSC family, Rivers State as the 3rd out of 5 Corpers’ Lodge promised by the Executive Chairman of Tai LGA, Hon. Mbakpone Friday Okpe to the NYSC was inaugurated.

The inauguration which took place at Botem community consisted of 8-rooms self-contained’ bungalow with a big kitchen equipped with gas cooker and deep freezer, a common room with a DSTV subscribed television, rooms furnished with beds, pillows, wardrobes, reading tables and chairs, a borehole with water tank and a standby generator as alternate source of power.

Inaugurating the lodge, the Special Guest at the occasion and the Chairman, Caretaker committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State, Hon. Aaron Chukwuemeka, JP represented by the Caretaker Secretary of the party, Dr. Benibo George described Corps Members as “special breed of educated youths capable of transforming a community and lifting them out of educational backwardness if well taken care of and given a conducive environment to thrive.”

He commended the Chairman, Hon. Mbakpone Friday Okpe for his visionary leadership and people oriented projects across the LGA and described him as a “trailblazer”.

Earlier, in his remarks, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Mbakpone Friday Okpe had stated that his desire and passion to ensure quality education for students in the LGA has been his motivation in building the lodges, believing that Corps Members as role models and agents of positive change will help students in the Council to find a career path for themselves because education is power.

He opined further that he was always disheartened and disillusioned in the past when Corps Members posted to communities in the LGA couldn’t stay to serve because of lack of accomodation.

He concluded by stating that with 5 Corps lodges in the LGA, the issue of lack of accomodation has become a thing of the past, assuring that the remaining 2 lodges will be completed and inaugurated in few weeks to come.

With the above development, he said he is convinced that Corps Members will stay on the ground and ensure effective teaching and learning amongst students in the Council.

In his goodwill message, the State Coordinator NYSC Rivers State, Mr. George Mfongang described Hon. Mbakpone’s achievements with the building of Corps lodges as unprecedented and the first of its kind nationwide by any Council Chairman.

Speaking further, the Coordinator used the occasion to appeal to members of Botem community to ensure the safety and welfare of the Corps Members posted to them as well as ensure that the facilities in the lodge is not vandalized.

He concluded by assuring them of the posting of more Corps Members to the community to meet up the educational needs of the students.

It will be recalled that the Executive Chairman of Tai LGA, Hon. Mbakpone Friday Okpe have successfully completed and inaugurated 3 Corpers’ Lodge including Nonwa, Bunu and Botem inaugurated today.

The remaining 2 include that of Seme and Gogo communities which are to be completed and inaugurated in the weeks ahead.

Prominent personalities within and outside Botem community attended today’s inauguration including members of the political class, traditional rulers, security agencies, religious leaders, stakeholders, women and youth groups, opinion leaders and leaders of thought as well as Corps Members.
