By Peter Jonah

The election petition tribunal sitting in Asaba has struck out the case brought before it by Timinimi George, Delta South senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2023 general elections, against Sen Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, senator representing Delta South in the National Assembly and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the same elections.

The honourable Judges in their verdict on September 6, 2023, stated that the plaintiff’s petition is incompetent and the court lacks the jurisdiction to entertain such on the ground that it is a pre-election matter. The court further awarded the cost of N500,000 (five hundred thousand naira) in favour of the APC candidate.
