Robbers attacked a Hausa businessman in Ogun, carting away $11 million. The incident occurred in the Oke-Sokori area of Abeokuta, in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The robbery lasted for approximately three minutes and involved a four-man gang.
The suspects successfully fled the scene with the stolen $11 million, which was stored in two ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bags. Prior to the robbery, they immobilized the victim’s car, a Toyota Venza salon car with the registration number ABC 565 GN.
The victim, an unnamed Hausa trader based in Abeokuta, recounted his ordeal to two police patrol teams that arrived at the scene approximately 30 minutes after the robbery.
He explained that he was on his way back to his base after an unsuccessful attempt to deposit the foreign currency in a new generation bank’s Oke-Ilewo branch. The bank had turned him away, stating that banking hours had ended.
As he was returning, the robbers struck, making him their victim. An eyewitness at the scene described the robbery, stating that the four suspects operated in a tinted Toyota Camry ‘Muscle’ around 4:35 p.m. on Friday.
They intercepted the victim’s Toyota Venza car in front of the FATGBEMS Petroleum Filling Station at Oke-Sokori. Using force, they brought the victim’s car to a stop and opened the boot.
Once inside the car, the masked robbers unloaded the two bags containing the foreign currency into their own car. They also took the victim’s car key before making their escape, leaving before security operatives arrived.
The four robbers were dressed in black T-shirts and jeans, wore black facemasks, and carried rifles.
