Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, on Wednesday, visited Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State to console the families of 16 hunters who were killed in Uromi, Edo State.
Meeting with the victims’ families at At-Taqwa Mosque in Sabon Fegi, Bunkure, Senator Barau assured them that justice would be served. He also announced that security agencies had arrested two more suspects, in addition to the 14 already in custody.
Senator Barau pledged to sponsor a motion on the incident when the Senate reconvenes later this month. To support the bereaved families, he donated N1 million to each of the 16 families.
“I am here to sympathize with you over this tragic incident. May Allah grant the deceased Jannatul Firdaus and heal the injured,” he said.
He further stated that he had engaged with the state governor and security agencies, who had taken swift action on the matter.
Speaking on behalf of the families, Chief Imam Sheikh Zainul Abidina Auwal expressed gratitude for Senator Barau’s intervention and described him as a leader dedicated to the country’s progress.
The senator was accompanied by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, the Managing Director of the North West Development Commission, Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji, and other dignitaries
