The leadership council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli North was formally inaugurated yesterday.
The inauguration meeting took place at the Evwreni country home of the party’s founding leader, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, OON. The Council, which comprises current and former elected leaders, current and former government appointees and others as statutory members, as well as leaders nominated from all 11 wards of the LGA, is made up of about 115 members, most of whom were present at the inauguration.
In his welcome address, the Host of the meeting, Olorogun Emerhor, emphasised that unity among party leaders is crucial for progress, stating that there can be no cohesion where there is discord. He highlighted the importance of establishing a leadership council to provide direction and counsel to promote the party at the grassroots level. He called for collaborative efforts to ensure that the party remains united and dominant to win.
Other notable leaders who delivered goodwill addresses at the meeting included the State Chairman of the APC in Delta State, Elder Omeni Sobotie; Ughelli North Council Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo; Chief Terry Noah; Rt Hon Festus Agas; the two members representing Ughelli North at the state assembly, Hon Matthew Omonade and Hon Spencer Ohwofa;
Prof. SWE Iboje, Chief Morrison Olori, and Hon Sam Mariere, among others. Every speaker acknowledged that there is still some work to be done to completely unite Ughelli North APC. Emphasis was on more aggressive and active grassroots mobilisation, particularly at the ward level and vigilance to protect the progress achieved so far. Support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency RT Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for a second term was further reaffirmed as the main objective of the Council.
State House of Assembly member, Hon Matthew Omonade, swore in the council members. Upon inauguration, an Executive Committee, which shall run its affairs, was immediately set up. Membership of the Committee included the following: Olorogun O’tega Emerhor – Chairman; Chief Fred Majemite – First Vice Chairman; Chief Terry Noah – Second Vice Chairman; Rt. Hon Barr Festus Agas – Secretary; Chief Raphael Emecho – Assistant Secretary; Mr George Oyefia – Organizing Secretary; Chief Roland Odeni – Assistant Organizing Secretary; Sir Festus Ahon – Publicity Secretary; David Edjukonemu and Chief Adjode Prosper – Ex-Officios.
Also set up was a Finance and Fundraising Committee to be headed by Hon Stella Okotete as Chairperson and Mr Kelly Oghenekevwe as Secretary. An Elders Committee for all leaders 70 years and above, to be headed by Prof SWE Ibodje, was also set up.
The Council then went into a fundraising exercise where over N140m was instantly raised to fund party activities in the local government.
