Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, is a humble, quiet and an unassuming man who desires the best for the development of the State.
This is a man who is not given to self adulation despite of all the landmark achievements under him.
He wants to remain an unsung hero but his giant steps sell him to the public as an agent of development.
Diri, has ‘brazened’ the odds by taking on projects many thoughts were just impossible; building road inside rivers and swamps. What a gut when one looks at the commitment and huge capital involved with such mega projects.
Without mincing words, the ongoing historic Nembe-Brass road project and the 630 metres Angiama-Oporoma bridge along the Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie road project come to mind.
Truly, these projects were looking impossible many years back. Today, it is a different story.
The immediate past Governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, supported the NDDC and SPDC in the completion of the 25.7km Ogbia-Nembe road project built with seven bridges and five culverts.
When will road get to the Brass Island? That was the big question on the lips of every interested and true sons and daughters of Ogbia, Nembe and Brass! Alas, the people are happy with Governor Douye Diri, for starting the Nembe-Brass road project.
Today, the Nembe-Brass road is progressing with speed towards the first phase of 21 kilometres.
Just as sand filling has reached almost 21km, asphalting of the first 6.5km from point zero on the Ogbia-Nembe road is almost done.
In the Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, Governor Diri is again performing wonders!
Yes, previous administrations of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and Senator Dickson, had done some portions before the current governor, continued from Igeibiri community and further down.
Many riverine communities including Oporoma, the headquarters of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, are now being connected by roads.
The joy of the people of Aguobiri, Angiama, Otuan and others knew no bounds when they saw the road project advancing towards their communities.
Yes, they are saying bye-bye to the risk involved in water transportation and high cost of traveling by boats.
Then, the wonders of the 630 metres long Angiama-Oporoma bridge across River Nun under construction by the Diri-led administration reverberate to inhabitants of the riverine communities. This is a legacy!
Governor Diri is writing his name in gold. Indeed, the Governor is a giant, who dared the challenges attributed to the terrain and vowed, “we need to conquer this difficult terrain to take roads to our people in the several riverine communities.”
Posterity will indeed be kind to Governor Diri and his government of Prosperity.
