Political leaders in Warri south local government area, Delta state have called on security operatives to caution those trying to cause ethnic crisis in Warri with the name Wado city.
At the end of an emergency meeting convened by the local government council Chairman, Dr Michael Tidi with the members representing Warri south constituency 1, 2 in the Delta state House of Assembly respectively , Honourables Augustine Uroye , Benson Obire, some leaders of Okere and Agbarha Communities and security agencies at the council secretariat the stakeholders warned those behind the use of the name Wado city to describe a portion of Warri south local government to desist from such.
According to the leaders, the coinage Wado city is unknown to governments at the local , state and the federal levels, warning those behind use of such name to immediately discontinue the act.
The political leaders also include the Delta State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, Special Adviser to Governor Oborevwori on Niger Delta Affairs, Hon. Griftson Omatsuli.
Chairman of the local government, Dr Tidi further called on security operatives not to hesitate to arrest anyone seen mounting bill boards in any part of Warri south local government area bearing Wado city.
Some persons have been overheating the internet space with the name Wado city for some time now.
According to them, the Wado city covers a part of the Warri south local government area they have chosen to rename Wado city , a move that has been generating diverse reactions from various ethnic interest groups in the oil rich city of Warri south local government area.
Residents in Warri South, who also spoke to the Vanguard on the issue pleaded with those behind the Wado city to drop the coinage, stressing that it was capable of causing another round of ethnic crisis in the Warri.
” Warri is rebounding. I want to appeal to those behind this Wado city stuff to please drop it. Warri has not recovered from the last ethnic crisis that caused companies to relocate to other states. Now that investors confidence in Warri has started nobody should kill it under this Wado city stuff.”, Caroline , a resident in Okumagba Avenue area said.
