Given the prevailing economic realities in the country, the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor has canvassed the need for the affluents in the society to continue to lift fingers of economic assistance to the less privileged ones.The speaker who gave the counsel yesterday at the resumed sitting of the State legislature for the 2024 legislative year, particularly, urged the lawmakers in the State Assembly to continue to show love to their constituents.In the charge which formed part of his welcome address at the resumed sitting yesterday, the Speaker noted that the current economic hardship Nigerians are going through had never been witnessed in the nation’s corporate existence.”Nigeria as a nation is in a critical economic quagmire.
Our people are daily facing hardship never experienced in our corporate existence.” I therefore urge all of us to continue to show love to our constituents in our little ways” Guwor said just as he lauded the State lawmakers for reaching out to their constituents during the yuletideThe Speaker congratulated Deltans and, particularly the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori on his victory at the Supreme Court upholding his election as Governor of the State.He said, ‘The decision of the Supreme Court is a re-affirmation of the landslide victory of His Excellency the Governor at the Governorship election on 18th March, 2023. “The victory is for all Deltans, democracy and the rule of law. The decision by the apex Court is res judicata (it is final). “I therefore call on all Deltans to join hands with His Excellency the Governor to advance Delta State with his MORE Agenda.
Let us elevate the overall interest of developing the State above individual myopic interests” Guwor advised.While assuring Deltans of increased legislative activities in the new year, the Speaker noted that the House, within the past seven months of inauguration has recorded modest achievements.According to him, within the period under review, the House received seven Bills: four Executive Bills and three Private Member Bills. “Out of the seven Bills, four received third reading and passed, Three out of the four have been assented to by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, Governor of the State; while one is awaiting assent.
