… preaches peace in Bassambiri
… insists no Chiefs Council, Youth Body recognised by govt
Senator Douye Diri, Executive Governor of Bayelsa State today received report of the Nembe-Bassambiri Judicial Panel of Enquiry at Government House, Yenagoa.
The panel report was to look into the February 15, 2023 violence in Nembe-Bassambiri community that resulted in the deaths of three persons with thousands of people displaced from the area.
“Let me congratulate the Chairman and members of this committee. It is a call to duty. It is a call to serve our people. There is no place that can develop when there is crisis. We want our state to be a place of peace and harmony so we can attract development.
The crisis in Nembe-Bassambiri is more of political than even economical and traditional. What we want is lasting peace in Nembe-Bassambiri. We don’t want lives to be lost in our state. Every one life is important to us as a government. We look at all your recommendations and implementation will be done to the letter.
Let me also use this opportunity to call on my brothers and sisters from Nembe-Bassambiri, it is time for everybody to tow the path of peace. Peace is priceless. There should be a resolution to live in peace.
So, once again, I would like to reiterate again that all decisions that had been taken about Nembe-Bassambiri still stands. No Chief and Youth organization is recognized in Nembe-Bassambiri until peace is restored in the area. Anybody parading himself as Chief of that place should be arrested by the security agents”, Gov. Diri said.
The panel was chaired by former Chief Judge of the state, Justice Margaret Akpomiemie(retd.), while Barr. Diepreye Omubo served as Secretary.
Other members are Chief(Barr.) Fedude Zimughan, Dr. Josephine Igodo, Lady Love Amaseimogha and Barr. Vining Goselle.
The governor announced the implementation committee which includes; Secretary to the State Government, Alabo Gideon Ekeuwei, Acting Chief of Staff, Dr. Peter Akpe, Head of Service, Barr(Mrs). Biobelemoye Charles Onyema, and Special Adviser on Legal Matters, Barr. Alabo Ozubide.
