In what they describe as disastrous and ravaging, Okuntu Community in Ogulagha Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State has publicly cry out over the massive oil pollution rocking the community and her sister communities, Ibabebe (Isiayegbene) and Beniboye all in Ogulagha kingdom over the recent fire incidence that took place in a Floating Production Storage and Offloading Facility owned by Brittina-U Nigeria Limited, at Ajakpa Field, OML 90, Briga Media can report.

The unfortunate incident which took place on the 18th of July, 2024 has cause serious damage on our environment. Our shoreline is badly messed up. Our air, water and land is hugely polluted. Thereby, causing respiratory diseases and our people die of hunger and squalor.
In a press statement issued to newsmen by the duo of Pastor Mofort Mebilaje, Chairman Okuntu Community and Comr. Reyners Itigbiri, Youth President, Okuntu Community, they urge that a JIV be constituted immediately and medical and relief materials be provided to the Communities to provide succour to the people.

“We are directly impacted and affected as a people who live in the coastline and our shoreline badly messed up.
We are also calling on the Federal, State and local Government as well as agencies like DESOPADEC to come to our aide”.
“We are also drawing the attention of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency, NOSDRA, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and all other agencies in line with oil spill and pollution to swing into action and do the needful.

“While we sympathize with the management and crew of Brittana-U over the unfortunate incident that took place, we task them to ensure a proper clean up and remediation be done, medical and relief materials be provided and compensation be paid to our people without further delay.
Briga Media also gathered that sample taken from the environment clearly shows the high level of devastation and negative impact of the oil pollution in the land.
