A bill to Prevent and Prohibit the Destruction and Vandalization of Public Properties and Assets as well as the Delta State Domestic Staff Service Providers Registration Bill, 2024 has been presented and read the first time on the floor of State Assembly.
Both bills were read at Tuesday’s Plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Emomotimi Guwor who also constituted an Eight Man committee on Nutrition and food security.
At Tuesday’s plenary, the member representing Okpe state Constituency, Hon. James Augoye in a motion, presented for first reading, the Delta State Prevention and Prohibition of Destruction and Vandalization of the Public Properties and Assets Bill, 2024 and was supported by the member representing Ndokwa West Constituency, Hon Charles Emetulu.
The Majority Leader, Honourable Emeka Nwaobi in a separate motion also moved for the first reading of the Delta State Domestic Staff Providers Registration Bill, 2024 and was seconded by the member representing Ndokwa East, Honourable Emeka Osamuta.
The Speaker, Right Honourable Emomotimi Guwor announced the dates for the second reading of both bills to come up on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 July 2024.
Also at Plenary, the Speaker, Right Honourable Emomotimi Guwor constituted an Eight Man Legislative committee arising from a retreat on Nutrition and food security of the house of Representatives with Speakers of the 36 State Houses of Assembly.
Rt. Hon. Guwor who is the National Treasurer Conference of Speakers,
explained that it was observed that democratic governance, economic development, peace and security in Nigeria cannot be sustained amidst food insecurity occasioned by increasing Poverty and security challenges.
He noted that the communique which was issued at the end of the retreat, recommended that state Houses of Assembly set up a Legislative committee on Nutrition and food security and thereafter constituted an Eight Man committee with Hon. Perkins Umukoro as Chairman, and Hon. Ferguson Onwo as Deputy Chairman.
Other members of the Committee include: Honourables Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, Bridget Anyafulu, Festus Utuama, Oloye Pereotu, Benson Obire and Abigail Eseadi, Secretary.
The house thereafter adjourned plenary to Tuesday 16 July 2024.
