A High Court of Justice in Kwale, Delta State, led by the Honorable Justice O. F Enenmo, has handed down a ten-year jail term to two persons convicted of unlawfully possessing a sawed-off single-barrel gun.
The defendants who are incarcerated at the custodial center in Kwale, are Mr. Joshua Anamali, aged 25, and Mr. Nelson Adoh, aged 30, were apprehended by police officers during a routine stop-and-search operation on January 27, 2021, in Ndemili, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was during this operation that the illegal firearm was discovered in their possession.
Upon a thorough review of the case presented against the defendants, the presiding judge found them guilty as charged.
Consequently, they were convicted and sentenced for the crime of illegal firearm possession.
During the trial, two witnesses testified against the defendants, who chose to represent themselves in court.
Following the verdict, the Prosecuting Counsel, Mrs. Catherine O. Oboreruomo, emphasized the importance of steering clear of criminal activities.
She highlighted that engaging in crime leads to condemnation and eventual ruin, underscoring the need for young people to make wise choices and avoid unlawful behavior.
