….as gov. Diri thanks former president for supporting his reelection
Former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan today, paid Governor Douye Diri a congratulatory visit in Government House, Yenagoa.
Dr. Jonathan while congratulating governor Diri, called on other contestants to accept the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), and join hands with the governor to move the state forward.
“I’m happy that Bayelsans have seen what you are doing, and have said that you must complete your tenure, and to me, that has been my wish even before the elections.
Let me formally use this opportunity to congratulate my younger brother who worked with me as commissioner for youths and sports, while I was governor, and he did wonderfully well, managing the youths and sports sector of our government.
He has tried his best and we have seen that he has done well, and that is why we want him to continue for the remaining 4 years.
Results have been declared and we believe that the elections were well conducted, and we believe that the governor won the election. So, I urge other contestants to accept the result and work with the governor, so that the state will move forward,” Dr. Jonathan Stated.
In his remarks, Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri thanked the former president for coming to congratulate him, stating that he played a major role in his electoral victory.
“We feel very humbled by your presence, and for me, this is what we the younger ones need to emulate.
It is no news again that you were head and neck deep in this race of governorship of our state. It was a public show when you hosted me a few days to the election and endorsed our ticket, and that spoke volumes for our victory.
This election is won because you came all out to support my candidature, and to support continuity, and to support zoning in Bayelsa State, and you didn’t mince your words when you did that.
So, let me on behalf of my family, the deputy governor, the government and good people of Bayelsa State, convey my heartfelt gratitude to you for all you have done in the processes that have led to today’s issuance of certificate of return.
We are proud of you, that you became president of the federal republic of Nigeria, and you represented us very well,” Governor Diri stated.
