We have watched keenly the various policies of the President Bola Tinubu led Federal Government from May 29th, 2023 till date, and it is dissatisfactory to state that it is geared towards destroying the peace loving people of the Niger Delta particularly the Ijaw Nation.
The President Tinubu led Government has since inception initiated moves to scrapped the Niger Delta Ministry when he delibrately did not announce a Minister to running it.
It took the roaring of Ijaw leaders like Pa Clark to put him on his toes and do the needful.
It is pertinent to state that the Ministry of Niger Delta affairs is not an accidental creation but was painstakingly established by late President Musa Yar’dua to specifically address developmental decadence and challenges rocking the Niger Delta particularly the Ijaw people alongside with the Presidential Amnesty Program aimed at disarmament, consolidation and reintegration.
The late President Musa Yar’dua knowing fully well that the Niger Delta is the economic livewire and golden hen that lays the golden eggs for the nation.
That the recent announcement of President Bola Tinubu to scrapped the Niger Delta Ministry and turn it to Ministry of Regional Planning is not just a joke taken too far but a violent slap on Niger Deltans and Ijaw people especially who are the most beleaguered victims of underdevelopment and Infrastructural deficient.
Moreso, the issue of a Federal High Court in Abuja becoming an arm of a political party to stop allocation to the good and hospitable people of Rivers State is a call to pull out of the Nigerian Federation.
If Rivers State, a State created with the sweat and blood of Horald Dappa Biriye, Major Isaac Adaka Boro and a major Oil producing State in Nigeria will not enjoy her resources and allocation that the Federal Government enjoys even more, who then will the allocation goes to?
Is it to further development Lagos and Abuja that are already developed by our Oil wealth more than our villages and creeks that produces it?
This is a Socio-Political and economic aberration in a nation comprising of Federating units that must be rejected by all well meaning and right thinking individuals.
The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, is one of the most dogged, rugged, fearless and intrepid youth organization imbued with the blood of Adaka Boro and the gods of Ijaw Nation, established mainly to protect Ijaw people and defend her territories as well as fight corrosively against the oppression of Ijaw people.
The IYC’s 9th NEC recent position on the scrapping of the Niger Delta Ministry and the Rivers State allocation quagmire is indeed very commendable as it has shown that the revered youth group is fully intact and inline with the foundational principles, objectives and aims.
However, as Ijaw people, we did not take NO for an answer, as it regards oppression and flagrant violation of our human rights, because posterity stands to judge us for our misdeeds if we did not take the bull by the horns to stop enemies from encroaching and taking over what rightfully belongs to us.
I hereby called on the President of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Worldwide, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr and the entire 9th NEC to declare a “Mother of All Protest” to correct the wrong doings of the President Tinubu led Federal Government for us to imprint our names in gold instead of allowing evil prevail against good in our time.
Posterity stands to judge us if we did not do the right thing at the right time.
