In what they describe as sadden and unfortunate, the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Operemor Clan has condemned the recent political crisis that led to the death of a promising youth and several others injured in Ojobo Community, headquarters of Operemor Clan, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Warri, Chairman of IYC Operemor Clan Comr. Elvis Asamaziba has called on all parties to be calm and allow for peaceful negotiations and dialogue. Stating that elections and tenure elongation does not worth the life of any Operemor son or daughter.
According to him “Life is too precious to be wasted because of the political ambition of a community chairman.
‘Ojobo has headquarters of Operemor Kingdom should show a leading example to other communities. Fighting to kill one other because of political ambition is showing a negative example to others and painting the entire kingdom in bad light before the entire world.
‘We call on all parties to give peace a chance and let there be an amicable resolutions. Democracy is by majority rule, if majority says it should be two years tenure, then so it is but if not then let the one year term remains.
‘Nobody’s opinion is superior than other, instead the majority voice should be adhered to.
We mourn with the bereaved family and pray for God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
They also call on relevant security agencies as well as the Government of Delta State to wade into the issue. He added.
