Renowned Niger Delta Environmental activist and National Coordinator Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, Comr. Chief Sheriff Mulade has urged the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Francis Oborevwori JP to convert the Burutu Marine Polytechnic to a University.

According to him, the resources within the Ijaw areas of the state, particularly Burutu Local Government is more than enough for a state university to be sited and owned by the Ijaws.

Mulade make this call during a visit by members of the Ijaw Publishers Forum led by Comr. Austin Ozobo to the office of the CEPEJ boss as one of the recipients of the Ernest Ikoli Media Personality Award in recognition of his impact, dedication and commitment to Ijaw course.

Mulade states that Ijaws contribute almost 60% of the revenues of Delta State yet starved of university education in their land. Which has made them to travel far before having a university education.

He asserts that having a university in the coastal area will be one of Governor Oborevwori’s greatest achievement that will earn him a peaceful and sweetless second term.

He urges Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to immediately convert the Burutu Marine Polytechnic to a University to enable Ijaw people and the entire riverine to have access to university education and not traveling far always to do so.

Comr. Sheriff Mulade was on the 16th December, 2024, in recognition of his fearless, dogged and intrepid advocacy for the betterment and advancement of Ijaw Nation given an award of Honour by members of the Ijaw Publishers Forum, IPF.
