Delta State House of Assembly, Wednesday screened and confirmed the nominees for appointment into the Delta State Investment Development Agency, Civil Service Commission and Auditor General Local Government.
The house also considered eight proposed Executive bills and which scaled first reading at plenary presided over by the Speaker Right Honourable Emomotimi Guwor.
At Wednesday’s plenary, the house dissolved itself into the committee of the whole house to enable it screen the nominees from the Governor.
The nominees screened include Olorogun Lucky Omoru, Honourable Anthony Elekeokwuri as Chairman and Director General of Delta State Investment Development Agency, Chief Mrs Roseline Amioku and Mr Ikechukwu Madumezia as Chairman and member of the Delta State Civil Service Commission as well as the Mr. Ukpaka Ikenna as Auditor General, Local Government.
The nominees where presented to the house by the members representing their various Constituencies and thereafter asked to take a bow.
The Lawmakers however frowned at Mr Ukpaka Ikenna for failure to update his curriculum vitae which they considered misleading and asked that copies of the CV be withdrawn and corrected.
The Speaker Right Honourable Emomotimi Guwor who announced the Confirmation of the nominees after a unanimous voice vote, charged the nominees discharge their duties in line with the More Agenda of the Governor Oborevwori led government.
Also at plenary, eight executive bills scaled through first reading at the floor of the house.
The proposed bills sent to the house by the Governor includes, A bill for a law to amend the Delta State Administration of Civil Justice Law, 2022, A bill for a law to amend the Delta State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2022, A bill for a Law to amend the regulation of Private Veterinary Clinics Law, 2006, and A bill for a law to amend the Special offences Court Law, 2018.
Other bills that scaled through first reading include; A bill for a law to establish the Delta State film and video censor’s board Law 2024, A bill for a law to repeal the Delta State Electric power sector law, 2022 and enact the Delta State Electricity Power sector law 2024, A bill for a law to prohibit all forms of trafficking in persons and establish a taskforce against human trafficking and irregular migration as well as a bill for a law to enact and consolidate the law relating to the licensing, Control and registration of Pets for the purpose of prevention and control of rabies and other bacterial diseases.
The Speaker Right Honourable Emomotimi thereafter deferred the bills for second reading at a later date.
The house adjourned plenary to Tuesday 14 May 2024.
